Market Outlook First quarter: Fisher Capital Management

India is in sweet spot. The central government budget sets the tone for the reduction of fiscal deficit and an unexpected increase in interest rate to curb inflation has convinced the markets and economists that India is on its way to have sustained economic growth. Industrial production also continued to grow at a rapid pace in January as companies produced more cars and cement. In fiscal 2011 ending in March 2011, GDP growth of 8.5% practicable. agricultural production and domestic demand.

Inflation in India has been surging, driven by a weak base and the high prices of foodstuffs as monsoon rains lowest in 37 years last year hurt agricultural production. The year on year inflation rate for food items was 16.22% in the week ending March 13 above the comfort zone for the central bank and the government. The central bank also announced it would continue to back its loose monetary policy to manage prices, while the country may not have undergone strong growth with high inflation.

We expect a rate hike of 0.25 percentage point in mid-April and another increase of percentage point in March 2011.

It is unlikely that India will benefit Spat Google and China as the Indian government not provide the kind of benefits China extends to manufacturing in China. But some relocation is likely to appear. For example, U.S. companies GoDaddy and Dell have threatened to withdraw from China and move to India.
